ATVs / Snowmobiles

Registrations expire annually on December 31. Renewals are accepted any time between September 1 - December 31. The registration is valid from January 1 - December 31. A late fee will be charged for any past-due registration. Transfers not made within 30 days from the sale date will be charged a $5.00 penalty in addition to the normal fees. Transfers need a bill of sale, title if (applicable), and registration all signed by the seller.

Registration renewals can be done in person or by mail. If renewing by mail please add $2.00 per item requested for postage.

2024 Change to Snowmobile Fees

Due to a new law that went into effect July 1, 2024. the cost for renewing snowmobile registration is now $33.50. This fee combines the trail user permit ($15) with the annual snowmobile registration fee ($15), for an annual fee of $30 plus administration fees.

New or Used ATV/Snowmobile

  • If purchased from a dealer the registration is completed by the dealer.
  • If purchased through a private party sale and was previously registered in Iowa,  the registration does not need to be current to transfer ownership but a $5 penalty may apply (see Used Vehicle Fees). 
    • Please bring a registration receipt or screen print from an Iowa County Recorder office and the title signed by seller.
    • If the title has a notation regarding a lien, the lien MUST be released by the County Recorder listed on the title.
    • Bill of Sale signed by seller listing purchase price
    • Application for Registration (obtained at local County Recorder's office)

Registered Out of State

  • Need registration and/or title from the previous state signed by seller
  • Bill of Sale signed by seller listing purchase price
  • Application for Registration (obtained at local County Recorder's office)

ATV/Snowmobile Never Registered in any State

Used Vehicle Fees

With current registration, the fees for used vehicle are the same as new fees listed for new vehicles.
