Black Hawk County, IOWA - The Black Hawk County Road Department is kicking off its second annual Name a Snowplow contest, inviting the community to help name three of the county’s 22 snowplows. Winning entries from 2024 include: Alice Scooper, Scoop Dogg, and Darth Blader.
The contest opens November 20, with entries accepted through November 30. Contest entry form is available here: https://forms.office.com/g/s1FDiumf8w and is also linked on the Road Department Facebook page at @BHCRoads. One entry per person.
After the submission period closes, Road Department staff will narrow submissions to 15 finalists for anonymous public voting. Public voting will begin on December 8, and the winning names will be announced on December 16.
The three contest winners will receive an official “I Named a BHC Snowplow” t-shirt and have their choice of one of the following prizes:
- 4 Tickets to Hartman Reserve Maple Syrup Festival.
- 1-night stay in a modern cabin at Hickory Hills or Big Woods Lake Campground.
- 2-night stay in a rustic cabin at Hickory Hills or Big Woods Lake Campground.
A few important contest details:
- Contest entries are open to anyone over 18 years old.
- An adult may also submit a name on behalf of a child.
- Group submissions are allowed but must include a contact name.
- Submissions should be appropriate and under 15 characters for the name to fit on the plow
- If the same name is submitted multiple times, the first entry will be the one considered. Duplication from last year’s winning names, will not be eligible.
