Black Hawk County is seeking applicants to serve as a member of the Black Hawk County Board of Health.

Position information:
 

Summary

  • The Black Hawk County Board of Supervisors is seeking a person to fill the position of Board of Health member. The Board of Health is a five-person board comprised of Black Hawk County residents. The board members are appointed by the Black Hawk County Board of Supervisors for the purpose of carrying out the responsibilities and duties of local boards of health in accordance with Iowa Code Chapter 137. 

Responsibilities

  • The Board of Health shall have jurisdiction over public health matters within the county. The Board of Health is responsible for enforcing state laws and the rules and lawful orders of the state department, and to make and enforce such reasonable rules and regulations not inconsistent with law and the rules of the state board of health as may be necessary for the protection and improvement of the public health. The roles and responsibilities of the Board shall be consistent with Iowa Code Chapter 137 and Iowa Administrative Code 641 Chapter 77.

Time Commitment

  • The Board of Health meets monthly for approximately 60-90 minutes each meeting. Board members are offered additional training and volunteer opportunities, as desired.
  • The Board of Health currently meets the last Wednesday of the month at 7:30 a.m.

Term & Compensation

  • This is a three-year term (1/1/2025 - 12/31/2027) and is an unpaid, volunteer position. Any member may be re-appointed without limitation as to the number of terms served.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Be a resident of Black Hawk County.
  • The membership of the Black Hawk County Board of Health shall consist of at least five members. At least one member shall be licensed as a physician under chapter 148, a physician assistant under chapter 148C, an advanced registered nurse practitioner under chapter 152, or an advanced practice registered nurse under chapter 152E.
