December 16, 2025 - The second annual “Name a BHC Snowplow” contest has wrapped up, and Black Hawk County’s Road Department now has three snowplows with a little extra personality rolling across the county.
The contest kicked off in November and received more than 200 name submissions from the public. In cases where duplicate entries were submitted, the first entry received advanced in the contest. BHC Road Department staff then voted internally to narrow the list to 15 finalist names, which were released for public voting on December 1.
Public voting closed on December 14, and the names with the most votes are:
- Truck Norris submitted by Robert Craft, Waterloo
- Plow Patrol submitted by Madison Gardner, Waverly
- Plowabunga submitted by Ramona Roskop, Cedar Rapids

The three contest winners will receive an official “I Named a BHC Snowplow” t-shirt and have their choice of one of the following prizes:
- 4 VIP Tickets to Hartman Reserve Maple Syrup Festival
- One-night stay in a modern cabin at Hickory Hills or Big Woods Lake
- Two-night stay in a rustic cabin at Hickory Hills or Big Woods Lake
The new snowplow names will be officially revealed at an unveiling ceremony in January, with contest winners and members of the media invited to attend.
We have had an exceptionally snowy start to our winter season. Black Hawk County Road Department reminds drivers to take extra caution around all snowplows, named or unnamed. Allow extra space, assume the driver can’t see you, and never pass them on the right.
