2025 Cedar Valley Veterans Way Banner Applications Now Available

WATERLOO, IA – Applications are now available for the 2025 Veterans Way Banner program. This program honors and celebrates the brave men and women who have served in the armed forces and made significant sacrifices for our nation. All eligible individuals or sponsors are encouraged to apply and participate in this meaningful project.

Banners will be displayed along the Veterans Way Walk of Honor, which is located on sixteen blocks of the Fourth Street corridor in Waterloo, from the Grout Museum on Washington Street to Sullivan Park on Adams Street. Each banner features the name and photograph of an honored veteran. A digital tour (WaterlooVeteransWay.com) contains a biography of each veteran.

The Waterloo Veterans Walk is a place-based art and history setting with thematic elements honoring Waterloo's veterans' stories. It serves as a place to reflect and learn about the region's veterans and veteran history.

The Exchange Club of Waterloo, a local volunteer civic organization, is partnering with the City of Waterloo, Main Street Waterloo, and Experience Waterloo to provide the Veterans Walk of Honor banners. The Exchange Club of Waterloo will use all proceeds for veteran/military programs or grants.

The banners are $200 each available on a first-come-first-served basis. Exchange Club of Waterloo spokesperson Trent Hunter commented, "The overwhelming response from our community, the heartwarming stories shared, and the visible appreciation shown by all who pass by these banners are a testament to the importance of honoring our veterans. Looking ahead, we are excited to expand the number of banners available to reach even more of our local heroes."

Key program details:

  • Eligibility: Veterans who have served in any armed forces branch and have a connection to Cedar Valley and/or Black Hawk County are eligible. This includes active-duty service members, veterans of past conflicts, and those who have served during peacetime.
  • Application Period: Applications for a Veterans Banner will be accepted until March 31, 2025, or until locations are sold out.
