Black Hawk County, IA - CliftonLarsonAllen LLP has completed an audit of Black Hawk County’s (BHC) financial condition for the fiscal year 2024 which ended June 30, 2024.

Doug Host of CliftonLarsonAllen, LLP presented the audit results during Tuesday’s Board of Supervisors meeting. Mr. Host recognized BHC for a clean “unmodified” audit which is the highest level of assurance that 3rd party auditors can provide during the audit process. He also recognized BHC staff for assisting in the audit process without delay, issue, or disagreement.

Highlights from the audit include:

  • Black Hawk County had governmental revenues of $67,169,772, total expenditures of $64,289,305 and total other financing sources/uses of $4,799,720.
  • A healthy fund balance: It is recommended that counties have at least 50% of expenditures in reserves, Black Hawk County has 67% in general fund reserves.
  • A review of the federal grant programs resulted in no findings.
  • Review of 11 Iowa State Compliance Areas resulted in no findings.

Finance Director Michelle Weidner was extremely satisfied with the audit’s out audit, and grateful for the work of county staff. “Taxpayers can feel confident in the financial health of Black Hawk County,” Weidner said. “The Board and County staff in all departments did a great job monitoring their resources in compliance with federal and state law, and we are pleased with the outcome of the audit and the results of the review.”

A copy of the audit report is available for review on the Black Hawk County website. It will also be filed with the BHC Auditor’s office, and on the Iowa Auditor of State website.
