Winners Announced in the Name a BHC Snowplow Contest
Black Hawk County, IOWA – The first “Name a BHC Snowplow Contest” has ended and Black Hawk County Road Department now has three snowplows with a little more “character” than the rest of the fleet.
The contest began in November with the help of over 200 creative and punny submissions from the public. If duplication entries were received, the first entry was the one that moved forward in the contest. The Road Department staff voted internally and narrowed it down to 15 names released for public voting on December 2.
Over 1500 votes* were received! The names with the most votes are:
- Alice Scooper submitted by Lori Klingfus of Waterloo received 519 votes
- Scoop Dogg submitted by Aaron Reinke of Waterloo received 494 votes
- Darth Blader submitted by Annie Kappelman of Cedar Falls received 328 votes.

The three contest winners will receive an official “I Named a BHC Snowplow” t-shirt and have their choice of one of the following prizes:
- 4 VIP Tickets to the Hartman Reserve Maple Syrup Festival
- Coupon for 4 Snowshoe Rentals at Hartman Reserve Nature Center.
- Weekend cabin stay at Hickory Hills Park to be redeemed in 2025.
The new names will be celebrated at an unveiling ceremony in January, which the contest winners and media will be invited to attend.
The Black Hawk County Road Department reminds drivers to take extra caution around all snowplows, named or unnamed. Allow extra space, assume the driver can’t see you, and never pass them on the right.
