NEWS RELEASE

Election Day Voting

Voters are encouraged to verify where they’re going to vote before they visit the polls for Tuesday’s general election.  It might not be where they voted last time.

“Precinct boundary lines were changed after the 2020 census,” says Black Hawk County Auditor Grant Veeder.  “That doesn’t mean a new polling place for everyone, but it will be different for a lot of people.  You should check to make sure before you go to vote.”

You may learn your polling location by entering your address online at  https://blackhawkcountyelections.iowa.gov/search/.   The webpage will identify your precinct and provide the polling place, a map of the precinct, and a sample ballot for its voters.

Voters may also get this and other information by contacting the Election Office at 319-833-3007 or election@blackhawkcounty.iowa.gov.   The polls will be open on November 5 from 7:00 am to 8:00 pm.

Veeder says it is also important for people who have moved to go to the polling place in the precinct where they currently live.  Any eligible voter not registered in the precinct in which they reside, even those not registered elsewhere, may register and vote on Election Day. The voter must complete a voter registration application, make written oath and provide acceptable proof of both identity and residence.  The most common example of an acceptable form of identity and residence is an Iowa driver’s license that is not expired and shows the voter’s address in the precinct.

Voters who received absentee ballots in the mail must return those ballots by the close of the polls, 8:00 pm on November 5, in order for their ballots to be counted.  With the election short days away, they are encouraged to hand-deliver their ballots, either to Room 213 of the courthouse at 316 E. 5th St. in Waterloo or in the drop box by the courthouse parking lot entrance.
