CliftonLarsonAllen LLP has completed an audit of Black Hawk County’s (BHC) financial condition for the fiscal year 2023 which ended June 30, 2023.

Miranda Wendlandt, CPA of CliftonLarsonAllen, LLP presented the audit results during Tuesday’s Board of Supervisors meeting. Ms. Wendlandt recognized BHC for a clean “unmodified” audit which is the highest level of assurance that 3rd party auditors can provide during the audit process. She also recognized BHC staff for assisting in the audit process without delay, issue, or disagreement.

Highlights from the audit include:

1.    Black Hawk County had governmental revenues of $71,531,248, total expenditures of $62,075,760 and total other financing sources/uses of ($118,174).

2.    A healthy fund balance: It is recommended that counties have 3-5 months of expenses in reserves, Black Hawk County has approximately 8.5 months in general fund reserves.

3.    Review of 11 Iowa State Compliance Areas resulted in no findings.

Finance Director Michelle Weidner was satisfied with the outcome of the audit, and grateful for the work of county staff. “A lot of staff hours go into making sure our county is on sound financial footing.” Weidner said. “We were pleased with the “clean” audit opinion and the results of the review. Taxpayers can feel confident that the Black Hawk County is financially healthy.”

A copy of the audit report is available for review on the Black Hawk County website. It will also be filed with the BHC Auditor’s office, and on the Iowa Auditor of State website.
